Abe Vigoda + Eiffel 65 + Money = Future

Immagine 3

An interview with Abe Vigoda, the best tropical punk band in the world, where they concede that Soulja Boy + Eiffel 65 + Money might be the equation to their future projects.

You guys recently toured Europe. How was that?

Juan: It was great. Too bad that I didn’t get to hear any euro-disco-techno-trash. I was expecting more of that.

You mean stuff like Eiffel 65? That’s like the European version of Soulja Boy. Twelve-year-olds buy it.

Those guys sell 25 million records. That’s what you gotta do. We should do our own. Write our very own boring song.

Yeah, do it! But change your name. Use something like Vigo-Abe. So you won’t loose your cool cred.

Yeah, and we’ll use that money on Abe Vigoda. But I want the number 2000 in the name.

Ok, V.Abe2000!

No, VR.ABE. I want Virtual Reality in it.

Ok, ok. Then write a song about going to the supermarket with only one line “Going to the supermarket, going to the supermarket, going to the supermarket” and you’ll make 20 million dollars.

Oh man, I would feel awful doing that.

But you could invest it in a studio for your ‘real’ project.

That’s true. I think I could do it after all. It’s better than the shitty day-job I have to do. That’s a good idea, actually. maybe I would rather just starve. I don’t even know if I could do it…

It’s easy. The only difference is those people have no qualms about it. They just say ‘fuck it I don’t give a shit’ and do it.

That’s true. Fuck it! I’ll do it too.

So, do you guys all have day jobs?

Kinda. I just quit mine.

Is the plan to live off Abe Vigoda?

We’ll see. I think the only way that I’ll be able to try and do that is if I quit my job. We’ll see.

Would you like to have studio time?

it would be really, really interesting to do that. Right now we just rehearse and play live and record that, and then after two months of jamming we record it better and in the way that we can afford. But if someone helped us to get studio time—which is so expensive—it would be so cool. But it’s kind of like a luxury.

So Dean from PPM and No Age doesn’t shell out?

Dean has NO MONEY. But he helps. The guys at Bella Union help us even more.

What’s the largest number of people you’ve ever played for?

We played the Wiltern, two nights in a row. It’s like 2500 people. It was sold out, but not for us. We were opening for Vampire Weekend. Hahaha.

What’s funny?

Just that we get related so much. People say we copy them.

But you guys have been around for way longer than them. They copied you.

Right! That’s what I say!

Or maybe they just like you. Like you guys are an ‘influence’. And you also both just have really shrill guitars and fast ethnic beats.

True, true. A lot of our fans say “Fuck Vampire Weekend!” and really hate them. But we don’t. They’re nice guys.

Maybe it’s a Tom Petty/Strokes situation.

What do you mean?

When Last Night came out, Tom Petty was going to sue them because it’s exactly the same as the beginning of American Girl. But instead of sueing them, he asked them to open for him for free.

Oh man! Yeah. Maybe that’s what it is!

But you guys are waaay cooler than Vampire Weekend.

Thanks!
