WELCOME HOME, GUYS

It’s over. The New York stop of the D:U:M: tour, aka the much awaited return home of our winners TPDR! and HEARTSREVOLUTION is gone.

The tension was so high that the day before the event NYC has been hit by the biggest tropical storm that we believe ever happened in a non-tropical place since we know what a tropical storm actually looks like. It looked to us like one of those weather events that always end up getting a couple of directors, environmentalists and ex presidents say stuff like “Hey, did you see that? The planet is warming up and the Pacific Ocean looks like the Mediterranean. In a couple of years we’ll all be dead. Trust us.” But as far as we know we’re here, and despite all the jellyfish that scared us from skinny-dipping like we did back in the ‘80s, we’ve actually survived these New York days and we did it real good. Here for you a piece of a photographic diary of what we’ve seen through our eyes.

As you may have noticed, we are filming a documentary on the bands’ tour. The idea, once we got to New York, was to hop on HEARTSREVOLUTION’s Ice Cream Truck and have a little tour of the city, giving away free candy to the good kids. Too bad we couldn’t make it: it was raining too hard. But we did go to Lo’s house and so we discovered that the legend was indeed true: she does live in what used to be The Velvet Underground’s home. So it was like being at a party at the Factory, minus the LSD, plus the icecream.

We had to shoot the video postcard from New York, for which HEARTSREVOLUTION have set up a sweeeet set. It never stopped raining, so they took us under the Williamsburgh bridge. We tried to hurry up, but after two minutes here came the police car. Lo kept on singing, turning towards the officers to smile at them all the time. And as soon as we were done, she ran over to them and covered them up in coloured icecream, trying not to get us arrested. And it worked!

The day after was the day of the event. Sun was shining, clock was ticking, and so we got to the Webster Hall. HEARTSREVOLUTION stood outside for a while giving away icecream and candy. Everybody else was inside dealing with soundcheck.

What makes an event the kind of super cool event that will allow you to tell all your friends: “Fuck, you should have been there”? Paparazzi, of course. And they were there. AND we did not pay them, we swear!

The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! opened the show. Somehow they managed to make this light structure that reminded us of a funfair, only that instead of cement poles to hold the whole thing up, they called up some friends, like 40 of them. We love these guys. They make everything that happened in music and performance before 2009 look like a super boring silent film. Awesome.

The night went on with HEARTSREVOLUTION and that incredible series of artists that are already down in history. Thank you everybody! We’ll be back soon with the second part of our NY diary. And the video is going to be up in a few days too!
