The Diesel:U:Music Tour Stop Sydney

Brace yourself… The World Tour is careering towards its final stop. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Headaches, comedowns and nervous breakdowns are expected to hit hard just in time for Christmas, but before they do, we aim to sign off in stupendous style in the balmy climes of Sydney. With HEARTSREVOLUTION already tucked up for a well-earned rest in their ice cream van, the weight of responsibilty falls on the shoulders of party starters The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! to outdo all previous eleven tour shows in one night of rock, rave and roll.
No problem. Lending suitably strong hands will be Melbourne stadium-in-waiting act Foxx On Fire, and yet another muse-of-Diplo (he gets around), Bronx-based Dominican Maluca. We’ll all be at the splendid Oxford Art Factory on November 25th for the sign-off, so see you there.

FAREWELL, MIAMI, YOU’VE BEEN GOOD TO US.

venueWe would never want to leave. But don’t worry, we won’t leave without
giving you bits and pieces of one of the most glamorous tour stops so far.
See you in Sydney guys!!!

intervistaterrorredcarpetWe told you it was glamorous, our mighty TPDR! got interviewed non-
stop and they even had some serious, totally hilarious red carpet time!

costumicostumi2Jesse decided to do some serious product placement by wrapping himself
in Diesel tape. Good job Jesse!

liveterrortipoacasoSome random dude decided to get on the stage at some point. But he
wasn’t really into dancing, he liked having his drink and staring at
the audience a lot better.

neilscalajeminaliveBy the time our TPDR! and Jemina Pearl performed, the place was p-a-c-k-e-d!

santigoldAnd Santigold with her robot-dancers completely tore the place down.

barfmonsterpuzzaIn the meantime, we had a situation going on backstage. This dude

right here, with his nice yellow jacket, is infact known as Barf

Monster. He managed to get shitfaced in 15 minutes, spit on his jacket

and end up passed out on the bathroom floor right in the middle of

backstage. Thank you, Barf Monster! You won’t be missed.

WELCOME TO MIAMI – BIENVENIDO A MIAMI

Ok people, we’re officially taking the D:U:M tour to the next level. Miami is b.u.r.n.i.n.g.!
We’ve got so, so many things to show you that we decided to keep it short with all the chit chat and go straight to picture-time. And we promise you, this is only going to get better tomorrow. Keep [...]

OH, WIEN!

papa-paparazzi.                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Ok. We’ll try and make this very quick and dirty, ‘cause we’re in Miami right now and the sun is shining and our hotel is right on the ocean and today we’re going wrestling with alligators (yes, we’ll show you pictures), but we still owe you all bits and pieces of our awesome last [...]

POSTCARDS FROM ITALY

Postcards from Venice, actually.
Our beloved Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! surprised everybody and decided to take a well deserved trip to lovely Venice before heading to Wien for the next stop of the tour.
We were there to make sure they covered all the basics: carnival masks, the grand canal, gondolas, and, of course, pigeons.

A REVIEW OF PISSED JEANS “KING OF JEANS”, A GREAT ALBUM THAT HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH JEANS

The new Pissed Jeans’ album could stand proud in a list of indie-bands and records that Sub Pop was putting out in the end of the eighties, more or less 20 years ago. And maybe it would have sounded even better had the production been taken care of by Jack Endino, thrown in the middle [...]

Scott Matthew strikes again

It’s the second solo album by Scott Matthew, and there’s no Shortbus this time around. If the first eponymous work could refer to an audience partly composed by fans of the John Cameron Mitchell movie (in which Scott appeared as a singer with a bunch of songs taken from his first record, including the awesome [...]

AN INTERVIEW WITH PARENTHETICAL GIRLS

Parenthetical Girls are a band that seems to be interested in: 1) messing up your idea of gender roles, 2) messing up your idea of what pop music is, and 3) messing up your idea of what to expect from a band. Their latest record is really quite something, so we called Zack up and [...]

Diesel:U:Music event in Dubai

The Satisfaction Guaranteed evening was attended by local movers and shakers, music lovers and those in the media who indulged in relaxing drinks while listening to six creative bands battle it out to the Road to Dubai Sound City!
The highpoint of the evening was the attendance of guest judge, Gary Dourdan, who played [...]

Gun Outfit are good and attractive, too.

Like most records put out by Dean Spunt’s Post Present Medium label, Gun Outfit’s “Dim Light” is an excellent, refreshing mixture between what was deemed “alternative” music in the late 80s and modern pop sensibilities, filtered through limitless inventiveness, courage, tongue-in-cheek fun, and a concept of punk rock enlightened enough to embrace 5 minute, complex [...]

Diesel:U:Music Japan selection: AMWE new release!

AMWE is one of the most promising upcoming talents in Japan. Year 2009 saw an important turning point for her music career. She has been selected as the Japan winner of DIESEL:U:MUSIC and she has booked for Summer Sonic 2009, one of the biggest music festivals in Japan. Several Japanese and international record labels offered [...]

Abe Vigoda + Eiffel 65 + Money = Future

An interview with Abe Vigoda, the best tropical punk band in the world, where they concede that Soulja Boy + Eiffel 65 + Money might be the equation to their future projects.

You guys recently toured Europe. How was that?
Juan: It was great. Too bad that I didn’t get to hear any euro-disco-techno-trash. I was expecting [...]

REVIEW – EDITORS – IN THIS LIGHT AND ON THIS EVENING (KITCHENWARE)

Forget emo. Another romanticism is possible: the pompous and decadent romanticism of certain Eighteenth century fiction. Magnificent and at the same time tormented, extremely personal yet universal, the Editors’ first two albums would have been the perfect soundtrack for a new-new romantic world.  Starting from the “influence” of old wave (Ian Curtis seems to be more [...]

EZRA FURMAN AND THE HARPOONS REALLY, REALLY LIKE YOU A LOT

Ezra Furman is a 20-something years old nice guy from Illinois that back in 2006 wrote a whole bunch of heart-melting, nostalgic songs that would fit right in a John Hughes movie score and decided it was about time to start playing them in various college dorm rooms together with his buddies Job, Andrew and [...]

STINKY BUBBLES AND PSYCHO PRINCIPALS

Calcutta Bubbles are a duet of pubescent, riotous teenagers that produced a bunch of truly amazing dance-italo-house tracks WAY BEFORE they ever got to touch their first boobies. Today, these two electro-nerds almost reached the age of maturity and are ready to conquer the music world. Ladies, keep your panties on.

CHATEAU MARMONT MAKE DANCE, KINDA: NOT REALLY DANCE-DANCE, BUT SORTA, YOU KNOW, DANCE-Y LIKE STUFF

Maybe there’s another way to make dance music. A way that refuses modernity, in part, and chooses to focus on modernism. A kind of approach that takes its cue from a vintage era in which musicians like Jean Michel Jarre tried to conceive of a new key for psychedelic music, something that was made up [...]

Sleepy Sun will make you want to grow your beard

Having scientifically ascertained that 70s rock is to the 08/09 period what punk-funk was to 03/04, we must now establish the best of this batch of hairy, smelly bands. We got Black Mountain and Religious Knives and all that, but these long-haired weirdos from San Francisco are by far the best of the bunch. Their [...]

Copy & Paste, from Switzerland with Love

One of the many international arms of the multi-tentacled Diesel beast have been getting in on the music act this week. In Switzerland, our famously neutral brethren have gotten off the fence and picked out a winner from their own hear-and-tell submissions mission.
Copy & Paste will now be winging their way to London UK to [...]

D:U:M Presents Rock & Rave Circus

Circuses used to scare us when we were kids. A mega-dark marquee filled with painted face’d loons gurning at you while midgets jump off the backs of animals into giant custard pies is all a bit Fear and Loathing to a seven-year old. We reckon that’s why, as adults, we throw ourselves into rock and [...]

PIGEONS ON THE STREETS OF LONDON

…And Pigeons all over Hyde Park too. And by that we mean our dear friends from Purchase, New York, and lots and lots of birds. And lots of people that like to go to Hyde Park and hug really tight and tell each other how much they love one another and just sit down and [...]

THE BIG PINK ARE BIG AND PINK AND HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH THE BAND’S FIRST RECORD

The Big Pink are Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell and they are one of the most talked-about bands of this late 2009, to all extents and purposes. And, for once, we might add, the hype is deserved. It seems that this might be one of those rare occasions where all the critics are right, after [...]
